Hey, Runners!
We are at the beginning of what I hope to be a really fun experiment, and I can’t wait to get started.
But before we do, I need to set a few expectations:
There may be some changes in how this works as we go. I’m going to be figuring this out on the fly. Substack was not built for this use, and I think it’ll work, but I can’t know for sure until we actually do it.
The year is going to be divided into two sections; Warm Up (June, July, August; all posts free) and Run (the rest of the year, only for paid subscribers.)
The Run will be also divided into focus blocks; Mindset, Discovery, Drafting, Crafting, and Revision. I will have tags on every post so they’ll be easy to find when you need to revisit something.
Enrollment will open on August 1, at which point people who want to can get a paid subscription and be enrolled in the challenge.
There will be an early bird discount for people ready to commit to the whole year before August 1; more information on that will be coming soon.
Posts will be frequent and short. You’re busy people. I’m not going to give you long-ass posts to read. Instead, I’ll be giving you short little digestibles a few times a week.
I will pose a question in every post. Please use the comments section to answer. The magic of this process depends on community, so I’m going to ask you to take a deep breath and answer those questions, and respond to others answering as well. The tone here is supportive, kind, and genuine.
That’s it for now. See? I promised short and I delivered short.
This is going well so far, huh?
Question: Where is your favorite place to write?
And a quick note, if you know any writers or are part of a group of writers who you think might enjoy this writing challenge, please consider sharing rotWIPs directly with them and on social media.

My favorite place to write is Tidal Wave, a coffee shop attached to a bookstore in Anchorage, Alaska. I still haven't found its like anywhere else. Second to that... my ratty old recliner.
Favorite place to write: Cafe Brazil. The best loaded cheese fries around, and because they have flavored decaf I can mainline coffee without fear overdosing on caffeine.
