I’ve had writer’s block for the majority of the last 5 years. And in no surprising turn of events, I’m realizing more and more that the block is myself.

I appreciate the wall analogy because it highlights that I most probably don’t want to barrel through the wall that is myself. It’s a bunch of scared versions of me playing a little Red Rover, arms banded together in solidarity. They all think they’re keeping me safe, showing me where to stay. I’m so ready to reassure them that they can break hold.

Yes I’ve had writers block. It’s made me feel fucking shit, that I’m not a writer. But hearing writers block happens when a writer has unaddressed fears resonates so deeply! I’m ready to face my fears, I’m ready to fail, I’m ready to try again 💖💖💖

Not really writer’s “block” I really was lazy for a long time.

Then I had a few years where I worked “8” hours,(more like 6 and 1/2 hours what with 2-15 minute and 1-1 hour break in there), a day-5 days a week; did that for about three years; completed four manuscripts, with various work on 5 or 6 others. Then my marriage fell apart; moved; lap top failure; another move; yet one more move; lap top repair,(and I use that word loosely), did some writing-mostly querying-total bust, btw), got remarried; wrote a little; another computer failure-total this time; another marriage failure; another move; got new laptop, and then developed severe thumb/wrist/hand issues and haven’t written in almost a year.

So, nope, not writer’s “block,” more like life block.

Life interference is real. The nice thing is, it usually passes.

"writer’s block happens when a writer has unaddressed fears."

I genuinely laughed aloud at this. I have a SwanQueen wip that's sat untouched on ff.net for 9 (! - that damn time blindness!) years. And I knew going into writing that one that it was probably going to happen at some point, that I'd hit a point I couldn't get past easily because of where I want/wanted to go with it. I keep swearing it's not abandoned, but there it sits.

Some stories are really challenging. The right time may come for that story later, and it'll be waiting there for you when you're ready. :)

I have had writer's block a lot, but I do find now that leaning into the reason why I have it, as opposed to resisting it, makes it way less formidable.
